Brimstone Entered Into Competition at Venice Film Festival

New Sparta Films is thrilled to announce the World Premiere of Brimstone, In Competition, at the 2016 Venice Film Festival.

The film, written and directed by Martin Koolhoven and produced by Els Vandervorst of N279 Productions, stars Guy Pearce (Equals, Genius), Dakota Fanning (Man on Fire), Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) and Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones).

Brimstone is a triumphant epic of survival, set in the searing wilds of the badlands, the menacing inferno of the Old American West.  It is a tale of powerful womanhood and resistance against the unforgiving cruelty of a Hell on earth and set against the backdrop of the late 19th Century frontier territory lawlessness.

Brimstone is a powerful, epic thriller with a compelling story and an engaging female protagonist on a life-threatening mission to escape from, and exact revenge upon, an enigmatic, evil preacher.  It is a dark, gripping, and emotionally fulfilling tale.

“Brilliantly chilling and wicked”

Jane Goldman (Kick AssStardustThe Woman in Black) adapts Peter Ackroyd’s brilliantly chilling and wicked crime novel Dan Leno and The Limehouse Golem. Spanish director Juan Carlos Medina (Insensibles) will direct, with cast including Bill Nighy (Dad’s Army, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and Douglas Booth (Noah, Jupiter Ascending).

London, 1880. In the dangerous Limehouse district, a series of murders have shaken the community. So monstrous and ruthless are these crimes that the press claim they’re the work of The Golem – a legendary creature from dark times…

Confronted by a murderer of a yet unknown kind and with no genuine leads, the police put the vastly experienced Detective Inspector Kildare (Nighy) on the case, a scapegoat for when the next victim surfaces.

The Limehouse Golem, a gothic murder mystery in the style of Se7en and in the vein of The Woman In Black, will be produced by Number 9 Films’ Stephen Woolley (Interview With The Vampire), Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol) and Joanna Laurie (Hyena).

New Sparta Films backs The Killing Of A Sacred Deer

New Sparta Films (NSF) is thrilled to announce its backing of the new Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) project: The Killing Of A Sacred Deer. The script is written by Lanthimos and his writing partner, Efthymis Filipou, and is being produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures (Room, The Lobster).

Inspired by a Euripides tragedy, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer centres on Steven, a charismatic surgeon, and a teenage boy who seeks to integrate him into his broken family. When the boy’s actions become increasingly sinister, Steven’s ideal life starts to fall apart and he is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice.

The film marks the second collaboration between Lanthimos, Farrell, Element and Film4 after 2015 Cannes hit The Lobster and it is the first film investment acquisition by Amit Pandya, New Sparta Films’ recently appointed Film Investments Manager.

NSF Managing Director, Nicki Hattingh, said: “NSF is thrilled to be supporting Element Pictures, Film4 and HanWay Films on Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer. This is an incredibly prestigious project to add to our slate of creatively original and distinctive film investments. We very much look forward to working with Element and Film4 for the first time and collaborating once more with our friends at HanWay.”
